The lion is perhaps one of the most present animals depicted in antiquity. Despite having gone extinct in Europe over 2.500 years ago, lions remain a symbol of greatness, strength and purity to this day.
The ancient republic of Florence made the lion (known as the Marzocco) their official symbol. According to historians, in 1280 a lion kept in a cage near the Baptisery of Florence escaped and found a wandering child, but returned it to its mother unharmed. From then on, lions were believed to bring good fortune and many beautiful fountains, statues and pennants depicting lions remain to this day throughout the city.
Theae delicate ball-back studs are made entirely of sterling silver plated in 18k gold.
